The accounting cycle
All accounting systems have to follow the flow chart in Fig. 1. This is regardless of whether they are paper-and-pen-based (manual) systems or computerized systems. This is also regardless of what software the business is using. All accounting apps have to follow this basic flow chart. (If an accounting app deviates from this flow chart, then it's a questionable product.)Just in case you haven't yet taken a course in PERT/CPM... - Diamond-shaped boxes indicate decision points. These are points in a process where you are expected to choose between two or more courses of action. - Boxes with curved bottoms indicate documents. - Rectangular or square boxes indicate processes. In the context of the accounting cycle, these are typically computations that an accountant has to undertake. - Trapezoidal boxes indicate manual inputting procedures. <<< Back to article >>> |
